$125MM in Growth Capital Turns an Art Concept into a Unicorn
Drew Tulchin, Senior Advisor at Marion Street Capital, served as Meow Wolf‘s first CFO, a B Corp that creates immersive art experiences to wow. His efforts there led to raising more than $125 million in investment over three years, purchase of a new headquarters, and growth from 50 people to more than 400 – with expansion to Las Vegas & Denver. Overall, the company raised $188 million+ since inception.
Meow Wolf continues to break boundaries in art. In 2008, seven groundbreaking local artists collaborated to elevate the New Mexican art exhibition space to a degree of unique excellence. Meow Wolf exhibitions regularly take visitors by surprise by combining unique artistic expression, interactive displays, and technology.
Meow Wolf’s first year of operation hosted 75 music events, had 400,000 visitors, and generated $6.8MM in revenue. Meow Wolf is a certified B-Corp, now with four locations and substantial growth opportunities to come. Meow Wolf’s development created hundreds of jobs and encouraged tourism in New Mexico.
Meow Wolf locations require large amounts of capital for fixed assets, technology, talent and marketing. With one highly successful pilot location in Santa Fe and an emerging national immersive experience market, conditions were ripe for expansion. During Drew’s tenure as CFO and VP, Investments and Capital from 2016-2019, he helped raise significant expansion capital.
